Radar Vienna INTERNATIONAL Competition

Chasing flops of gauze,
Ostensibly knotted, amuck,
Things in between other things,
Clean up as best they can.
Will they make it in time?
Probably not.

An epic travels into a universe of geometric abstraction. From the gravitations of childhood to the ascents and abysses of adolescence, from the colors of the city to the mirages born from the meeting of the other, the movement will be the only tangible element of this initiatory journey.

Radar Vienna INTERNATIONAL Competition

The reality of beach snails is not that much different from human lives, filled with an intricate interplay of social interaction and solitude, curiosity about the world and its rigid rules, fleetingness of life and the resilience to go on.

I woke up in a hammock and I couldn't move - Johanna Failer

I woke up in a hammock and I couldn’t move (Hablar de la selva sin usar las palabras serpiente y jaguar)

Johanna Failer | 2022 | 8 min 8 sec | DE, ES

Radar Vienna INTERNATIONAL Competition

Motionless awakening in a hammock sets the scene for a journey into the deepest parts of the immense forest, equally leading into the depths of human condition. Our innermost desires, fears and abysses are juxtaposed with the richness of plants and creatures. Who wants to enter the thicket will first be thrown back on their own guts.

Radar Vienna INTERNATIONAL Competition

Animation short “‘Til We Meet Again” talks about the tragic history of a small Ruhnu Island. Fearing for their lives, its entire population abandoned their homes while escaping the war in 1944. Decades later they had a chance to finally return, only to find out that the strangers had settled in. In addition to the twists and turns of the history, “‘Til We Meet Again” looks deeper into the meaning of home – is it merely a location or a place that gives one a peace of mind.

voyage with an unwritten letter - Nicole Aebersold

The composition “kleine winter” by the sound artist meinin is based on the playback process of a vinyl record, in which the quill of a pigeon’s feather acts as a pickup. The initial level of noise is gradually structured metrically by the steady rotation of the record, resulting in multi-tone motifs and finally repetitive melody. There are also pictures taken with old mobile phones, fragments of personal memories. The piece of music was the inspiration for connecting the images filmed on different trips. In the confrontation of the filmic and musical material, a RailroadSong gradually emerges.

TURBULENCE - Telemach Wiesinger

TURBULENCE

Telemach Wiesinger | 2022 | 14 min 59 sec | DE

Radar Vienna INTERNATIONAL Competition

The film poem TURBULENCE stands in the field of tension between surreal fantasy and multi-layered reality.
Telemach Wiesinger’s photographic recordings of aeroplanes from the perspective of the traveller encounter kinetic wing objects by the composer Alexander Grebtschenko.
In the congenial collaboration of the two artists, the electronically controllable “Chimera’s” – elegant bird wings with megaphone – unfold expressive “acting” presence.
The dialogue between the sound level (Grebtschenko) and the visual level (analogue film workshop Wiesinger) opens up space for emotions, thoughts and interpretations. (Thomas Spiegelmann, 2022)

24 Hour Clocks - Dirk de Bruyn

24 Hour Clocks

Dirk de Bruyn | 2023 | 20 min | AU

Radar Vienna INTERNATIONAL Competition

24 Hour Clocks is an experimental documentary about Surveillance and the iconic Flinders Street Station in Melbourne that marks the shift from material analogue technologies associated with the British Empire to the contemporary digital. The film contrasts its role of servicing its proletariat workers through the 50s to its present tourist destination and a more precarious diminished role in a diversified networked city permeated by ephemeral digital technologies and a COVID legacy.
